Subclassification C-21d Maintenance covers repairing and replacing parts of existing air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, such as compressors, motors, relays, coils and heat exchangers, but not replacing complete condenser assemblies on remote systems or air handlers, or any work that may alter the system design (NAC 624.380). Air-conditioning contractors are licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board in classification C-21 Refrigeration and air-conditioning. Subclassification C-21b covers installing, repairing, servicing and maintaining equipment and related ductwork that uses evaporation, refrigeration, boilers or combustion to control air temperatures, including humidity and thermostatic controls. C-21 work is not incidental or supplemental to any other specialty (NAC 624.380). (source: Nevada Legislature)
For residential contract rules, the Board interprets "repair" to include replacing or doing routine maintenance on mechanical equipment in a completed single-family home, such as heating and air-conditioning equipment, plumbing fixtures, chimneys, garage doors and garage door openers (NAC 624.013).
