Look up any contractor on the Board's Contractor License Search before you sign. Licensed contractors must put their license number in every ad (NRS 624.720). NSCB Southern Nevada office: (702) 486-1100. (source: Nevada State Contractors Board) (source: Nevada Legislature)
What Nevada ads must show
- A person who is not licensed and advertises construction work or a work of improvement must say in the ad that they are not licensed.
- All advertising by a licensed contractor must include the company name and the contractor's license number.
- Using a license number that does not belong to you in an ad is unlawful.
- The Board can order unlawful advertising to stop and the phone number in the ad disconnected.
Which license to look for
Air-conditioning contractors are licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board in classification C-21 Refrigeration and air-conditioning. Subclassification C-21b covers installing, repairing, servicing and maintaining equipment and related ductwork that uses evaporation, refrigeration, boilers or combustion to control air temperatures, including humidity and thermostatic controls. C-21 work is not incidental or supplemental to any other specialty (NAC 624.380). (source: Nevada Legislature)
See C-21 air-conditioning license rules and how to file a complaint.
